For Mixed Media.  Use printmaking techniques.  The bottom and left is a technique called chine colle.  The red circles were done with a toilet paper roll, the blue was done with the top of a plastic party cup, and the green was done with the bottom of the party cup.

CitraSolv National Geographic on Reeves BFK

For Mixed Media.  My 3rd of 4 projects.  I have cut out each petal from my Citra Solv pages and will attach them to the paper.  I still would like to add some background color and I need to cut out some more petals.

For Book Arts.  Create a book inspired by found objects.  It has been windy here lately so when I went on my found object walk I found a lot of leaves.  Originally my idea was to create a gradated color book (green to yellow to red to brown).  When I scanned the leaves the color didnt come through the way I had hoped.  Instead I got these really cool images with a lot of depth. The leaves were very detailed where they touched the scanner and blurry as they moved away from the scanner.  I decided to make an accordion book with these images.

For Mixed Media.  I took my Golden Poppy piece from last week and decided to pour resin on it.  It makes the piece feel more important.  I was surprised at how easy the resin was to use.  I think I am going to have to use it more often.

CitraSolv
These pages were created by spraying a National Geographic Magazine with CitraSolv cleaning solution. I used editions from both the 70's and 2008.  The pages on the left are from the 70s and the pages on the right are from 2008.  I like the results better from the 2008 ones as I feel the inks are more vibrant and gave cooler patterns.  I plan on using these pages (and making more) to create a large scale flower piece. Stay tuned for updates :)

For Mixed Media.  Experiment with multiple media.  Playing off of the name of California's state flower, the golden poppy.  I thought it would be interesting to make the golden flowers gold.

For Book Arts.  Create a book in sequence inspired by past present and future.  Each page has a number 87-24 and in years where something important happened there is a word- 87 birth, 01 high school, 09 move to California, 12 present, etc.  This book can be read in the round, as seen above, or as a flip book, as seen in the video below.

For Book Arts.  Use flour to create a paste to make a glue to create covers for future projects.  My paste was super lumpy so I found this project to be a bit difficult. I do like some of the affects I got though.

For Book Arts. Make a book without paper. To make my book I used scrap pieces of wood, decorative metal, dyed twine, metal paint, patina solution, glitter, glue, acrylic paint, & crackle paste.  It is an exploration in texture.  A book without words.

I love when my classes inspire each other. I used the techniques in Mixed Media to inspire the book for my Book Arts class.  To create the first pieces, I taped the decorative metal onto wood and painted with metal paint and patina to create covers for my books. The second one is blue acrylic paint, crackle paste, & bronze metal paint on wood.

I make Christmas presents for my family every year. This year I choose to work in linocut. I wanted to create something that could be hung all year round. I love languages so I explored the use of languages as expression. The background is created with the main word in many languages. The each image is 5 x 7 and is printed on 8 x10 printing paper.

For Mixed Media Painting & Drawing.  My final project.  These were super fun to do.  I began last night with dying papers with Sangria but that was too sticky and I wansnt getting dark enough color.  I then decided to brew a ton of black tea and that worked much better.  My living room was covered in wet paper.  I had the song "Hollywood" by Madonna stuck in my head for some reason as I was dying the paper and my idea for this piece started to form.  I had so much inspiration for this that I didnt want to go to bed but I realized I had to because all of my cool papers needed time to dry.

The first one was actually an accident.  The second one was my original idea but when I went to print it out I was all out of magenta ink and my fancy printer wouldnt let me print in color until I replaced the magenta.  So I printed it out anyway in black and white and used it to experiment with the image transfer technique.  I liked it so much that I decided to incorporate it into my final. 

 

These are made from- black tea, computer paper, Reeves BFK paper, photo paper image transfer, watercolor, acrylic, blue ink, fire, monotype (it is hard to see but it is there :), linen, and green thread.

For Mixed Media Painting and Drawing.  Done by creating a collograph plate and printing from it.  A collograph print is created by attaching found materials to a stiff surface then painting that surface and printing from it. This piece was printed from a plate that contained various plants.   

Here are more prints from this plate and the plate itself- 

"Spring" was created by working back into this print with oil pastels and watercolor. Adding the watercolor was like using crayons and watercolor when I was a kid :) I actually used both of the plates I created to print this image.  One plate is the green the other is the yellow. 

I first painted this with a wash of light green oil paint and then printed the darker green over it.
